Knoxville Open Water Swimmers

A group for experienced open water swimmers, swimming in the Tennessee River, open to boat traffic (including large freight barges), and subject to highly variable conditions: flow, water temperature and wind. You must be able to swim at least a 2:15/100m swim pace. This is not an entry-level swim. This should NOT be your first time swimming in open water.

Practice Information

Thursdays evenings, typically late April - early October, weather permitting. Arrive by 6:00 pm to sign in. Mandatory safety briefing at 6:15 pm, in water 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Times may change with sunset. Updates via private Facebook group.
Swimmers must wear a bright swim cap and are encouraged to wear an inflatable tow buoy. Wetsuits are permitted.
Pilots on kayaks or paddle boards are always welcome. Swimmers are expected to pilot two times per season.
