A tribute to an Oregon Masters swimmer

Connie Wilson (1935 - 1986). A familiar face was missing at the USMS convention in Ft. Worth. Connie Wilson, chair of the International Committee, contributor to several national-level committees, and at-large appointment by three USMS presidents, died of cancer in July. She was sorely missed. Connie was chair emeritus of the Oregon LMSC. She played a major role in the development of Oregon Masters Swimming from a handfull of swimmers to a position of strength and activity. Making a major comeback from cancer surgery in late 1985, Connie won a silver medal in the 50 backstroke in the 50-54 age group and was a member of a winning Oregon relay. She was deep in the preparations for the long course nationals in Portland when she died. Her fellow Oregonians dedicated the meet to her memory. In her own words, penned just before her death, Connie thanked all her friends who had helped make her life a meaningful and productive one. Such was the spirit of one of Masters swimming's dedicated volunteers. We salute her!
