Richmond to Host 2027 USMS Summer National Championship

SARASOTA, Fla. — The 2027 U.S. Masters Swimming Summer National Championship will be Aug. 4–8, 2027, at SwimRVA in Richmond, Virginia.

The facility will be hosting its second USMS national championship, joining the 2022 USMS Summer National Championship. Competitors at that meet broke nearly five dozen AQUA Masters world records and USMS records. More than 1,100 swimmers are expected to compete in 2027.

“We’re excited to bring Summer Nationals back to Richmond and partner again with a community that has demonstrated such a deep commitment to aquatics, Masters swimming, and exceptional events,” USMS CEO Dawson Hughes says. “The SwimRVA team and the Richmond region offer the facilities, experience, and hospitality our members expect at a national championship and a destination that makes the entire trip memorable for swimmers and their families.”

The $14 million SwimRVA facility was built in 2012 and features a large electronic videoboard, spacious locker rooms, and advanced filtration and water-quality systems.

The 50-meter competition pool was used for the 2008 U.S. Olympic trials in Omaha, Nebraska. Nine world records and 21 American records were broken at that meet.

The 2027 USMS Summer National Championship will help raise funds to teach children and adults in the Richmond region how to swim. SwimRVA, a nonprofit that runs the facility, taught free swim lessons to 3,500 people last year as part of its Drownproof Richmond initiative.

USMS has previously announced that the 2026 USMS Spring National Championship will take place April 30–May 3, 2026, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina; the 2026 USMS Summer National Championship will be Aug. 5–9, 2026, at the North Natomas Aquatics Complex in Sacramento, California; and the 2027 USMS Spring National Championship will be April 29–May 2, 2027, at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, California.
