Profiling Paul K. Windrath
Volunteer, swimmer and coach
Paul K. Windrath was born in 1954 in Rome, N.Y. He learned to swim at the age of five. Paul did not take to the water until his father, disheartened by his lack of interest, tossed him in the water off the dock at the family cottage on Lake Delta. He was instructed to grasp the dock and kick his feet. He soon became proficient in kicking and the rest is history.
He set local swimming records at the age of eight in city tournaments and later with Rome Elks Swim Club in age group competition.
He joined the Rome Free Acadamy Varsity Swim Team when he was in eighth grade and as he became more proficient he held every high school record but one by the time he graduated.
Paul spent the summer of 1970 with the Phillips 66 Swim Club in Long Beach, Calif., when he was 16.
Upon entering Dartmouth College in 1972 he swam varsity for 4 years until his 1976 graduation.
Paul has been very active in the Masters swim program since college as a volunteer helping organize national Master meets with his wife Mary Beth. He continues to improve his personal times and realize new goals.
Paul also is involved in coaching young swimmers on school and age group teams.
