USMS members can save up to 41% on life insurance with official partner Health IQ

CJ Wanamaker didn't have many ambitions when he jumped back into the pool a little over a year ago. Now, he's healthier and "faster than ever," training to break a 50 freestyle record.

The 37-year-old learned how to swim at age 9 and competed through high school but didn't swim much again until joining a Masters club at 25. But then he fell out of practice and dabbled with other recreational sports. After he suffered a shoulder injury, his fiancée, Cari, encouraged him to get back in the water.

"My fiancée is more into me going to the pool than I am sometimes," says Wanamaker, an unattached member in the Southern LMSC. "[She] really opened my eyes."

In less than a year, Wanamaker found his rhythm in the water again, training for the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly events. He's swimming better than he did several years ago. Last year, Wanamaker competed at the Southern Masters Swimming Long Course Championships and was only 0.7 seconds away from his LMSC's age group record in the 50 freestyle. Motivated by Cari's support, Wanamaker is working to chip away at that difference.

Last year, CJ and Cari got engaged and began planning for their wedding. After the engagement, he quickly had the same thought as many soon-to-be husbands: What if something happens to me? Will she be taken care of?

"I saw Health IQ's ad with U.S. Masters Swimming and figured I needed to get some type of insurance in place," Wanamaker says. "I called Health IQ and my agent, Jesse, compared my rates across 30 carrier partners and quoted a great rate: $43 a month for a $500,000, 30-year-term policy with SBLI. I also got a quote from a local agent I knew through personal connections, and his quote was $17 more expensive per month. From there on out, I thought, 'Let's do this, Health IQ!'"

Saving that $17 per month will help Wanamaker save $204 a year, or $6,120 for the total length of his policy's term. That's $6,120 he and his fiancée can put toward their life together.

"I love the partnership Health IQ has with U.S. Masters Swimming. I love USMS!"
