The Chicago Smelts are Chicago's predominantly gay and lesbian U.S. Masters Swim Team, encouraging fitness, community, and competition through swimming. Membership is open to everyone including gay-friendly straight swimmers. Practices are held at Gill Park Recreation Center and Jones College Prep.
Mondays: 6:00-7:15 pm and 7:15-8:30 pm (Gill Park) Tuesdays: 5:45-7:00 am (Jones College Prep), 7:30-8:30 pm (Gill Park) Wednesdays: 6:00-7:30 pm (Gill Park) Thursdays: 5:45-7:00 am (Jones College Prep), 7:30-9:00 pm (Gill Park) Saturdays: 9:00-10:00 am and 10:00-11:00 am (Gill Park). Practice on Saturdays is divided by speed, with faster swimmers at 9:00 during odd months and flipping during even months.
Gold Club Designation
The Gold Club logo identifies Masters clubs and workout groups that provide members with the best Masters Swimming experience possible. Gold Clubs have a U.S. Masters Swimming–certified coach on staff, participate in fitness events, and offer a free trial to potential members, among many other benefits.
USMS Certified Coaches
The U.S. Masters Swimming–Certified Coach logo identifies clubs and workout groups where you can find a USMS-certified coach. These coaches have furthered their Masters coaching education and have passed the certification exam. Note: A certified coach might not be at all locations or workouts.
USMS Certified Adult Learn-to-Swim Instructors
The Certified Adult Learn-to-Swim Instructor logo identifies clubs and workout groups that have a U.S. Masters Swimming–certified ALTS instructor. These instructors have furthered their swim-lessons instruction education and have passed the certification exam. Note: A certified ALTS instructor might not be at all locations or workouts.
