Swims to reduce stress

Leslie Henshaw Sauber was born in 1959 and grew up in Bartlesville, Okla., home of the Phillips 66 Splash Club. Her father taught her and her five sisters how to swim as soon as they were out of diapers. Leslie swam competitively for the Splash Club from age seven until the burnout age of 15.

Eight years later while in graduate school, she heard about Masters and since then, she has been swimming, organizing workouts, meets and social events, and serving as the president of the Tulsa Masters Swim Club.

Leslie has a busy veterinary practice, and she swims to reduce the stress. Avoiding cross training, she has remained injury free, and with her workout schedule of 3,500 to 4,000 yards, four to five times a week she has no trouble remaining one of the top female distance swimmers in her age group. She also places in the Top Ten in the free, fly and breaststroke events.

She has been a Long Distance All-American several times, and participates in several open water swims. The 10K Postal is one of her favorites, which she has done every year for the last 11 years.

Her husband John is an engineering professor at Tulsa University and is an avid tennis player. Leslie loves taking care of animals, enjoys her book clubs, and cherishes the wonderful friendships she has made through swimming.
