The articles covered such topics as the joy of open water swimming, the need for more community pools, a feature on three randomly chosen swimmers and why they swim for fitness, and the benefits of swimming with other swimmers. Linda truly enjoys swimming and her love of the sport shows in the articles that she shares with all of us.
2007 Mary Sweat Mary Sweat received the U.S. Masters Fitness Award in 2007. During that year a new event was introduced by the Fitness Committee to U.S. Masters swimming, a program to track distance entitled "Go the Distance." Commonly known as GTD, the initial year of this event proved to be very successful, with 367 swimmers participating. The program, free to any registered swimmer, allows for the swimmers to enter the distance that they swim each month, tracking this throughout the year. Interesting milestone caps and patches were made available for purchase. This event was successful largely due to Mary's diligent effort of reporting and following up with each and every participant.

As members of the OHIO Masters, who hosted the event for 2005, Doug and Maryanne worked to make this a very successful event.

Not to say that swimming the event in a meet does not count toward the outcome, it is just that it is not necessary to contest the event in a meet setting. The event attracted more than 300 participants allowing the Oregon Masters to reap the benefits in the amount of $1500.00, making this a very successful year for the event.
