Ed Nessel contributed to USMS as both a coach and as a research physiologist.  His research on the physiology of aging and how the body reacts to vigorous physical stress was shared in USMS magazines, allowing all Masters athletes to better understand themselves and their sport. As a noted Masters coach, he was named the 1998 USMS Coach of the Year.
