A longtime member and coach, Emmett volunteered at the national level for over three decades and held positions with Gulf LMSC. He served as LMSC registrar and Top Ten and Records chair. On the national level, he helped with the development of the online sanctioning process. Emmett coached H2Ouston Swims, one of the most successful local clubs in the country and was a recognized author and authority on swimming technique and training. Emmett published several books and wrote for national publications. He was selected as USMS Coach of the Year in 1993.
