The New England LMSC’s Douglas Sayles was one of the most dedicated volunteers for his Swim Rhode Island workout group, his LMSC, and USMS. Doug served on the LMSC board as Chair from 2015-2019. He brought enthusiasm, had great writing and record keeping skills, provided information about USMS, and actively recruited Board members and volunteers. Doug served the LMSC in numerous other positions: Open Water Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Assistant Registrar. He served on special committees like COVID relief and the Championship subcommittees. He worked with the meet directors of the SCY Championship Meet at WPI and helped make it a big success. Doug helped daily with SwimRI workout group responsibilities. Doug served on various USMS committees: Membership Committee (2013, and 2020-2021), Governance Committee (2019), Colonies Zone Vice Chair (2019-2021) and Chair (2021-2023), Legislation Committee (2020-2022), and LMSC Development Committee (2023-present). He was a Certified USMS Level 3 Coach, a Certified Adult Learn to Swim (ALTS) Instructor, and the event director for several open water events. Doug had a big impact on USMS, the NELMSC, and SwimRI workout group.
