Recipient: Frank "Skip" Thompson
Year: 2020
LMSC: Michigan

Frank Skip Thompson received the Capt. Ransom J. Arthur M.D. Award in 2020. Having joined Michigan Masters in 1982, he had been a dedicated member, competitive swimmer, coach, volunteer, event host, and officer, both nationally and locally for almost 40 years.

After joining the Masters organization in 1982, he began volunteering the next year as an LMSC club representative, then as an LMSC treasurer and later as the Chair. Since 1989, Skip served on eight USMS committees, including Championship, Zone, Planning, Coaches, Rules, and Legislation, and he served as chair of the History and Archives Committee. He served on USMS’s Board of Directors from 1992 to 1999 as the Great Lakes Zone representative, and he was the USMS Vice President from 2015 to 2019.

Remarkably, Skip had been certified as a Level 4 Coach, and recognized with multiple prestigious USMS awards, including the Dorothy Donnelly Service, Swimming Coach of the Year, Club of the Year (as head coach), Kerry O’Brien Coaches, and the June Krauser Communications Awards, as well as LMSC awards for outstanding volunteer service, coaching, and swimming performance.
