Recipient: Nancy Brown
Year: 2015
LMSC: Maryland

Nancy Brown had often been referred to as Maryland Masters’ Empress. A volunteer since 1974, she helped to organize and establish the Maryland LMSC. For over forty years, Nancy was a catalyst for its success. A beloved coach, devoted board member, fierce competitor and friend to all, her contributions spanned all levels of the organization. Nancy held positions as LMSC vice-chair, treasurer and club representative. Above all, Nancy, a constant cheerleader, promoted Masters Swimming and enthusiasm for the sport. For two decades, she ensured robust participation for every Maryland Carol Chidester Swim Series meet. Nancy organized and motivated a Maryland-wide LMSC contingent to attend the YMCA Nationals, including offering to help with travel logistics. Even while battling cancer, her selfless behavior was notable. She congratulated those with good swims and always offered encouragement. Her desire to swim well and to win was infectious. She truly loved the sport.
