Recipient: Nancy Brown
Year: 2010
LMSC: Maryland

Nancy had been involved with swimming since the age of 16 as a swimmer, a coach, and a mentor.  She was a founding member of Maryland Masters in 1974 and had served the Maryland LMSC and its Board continuously in different capacities. She planned several swimming clinics each year as the LMSC’s Clinic Chair.  In 1989 she received the Governor's Citation from the State of Maryland for her contributions to physical fitness.  She constantly promoted fitness for her swimmers through interesting and challenging workouts, team emails, and individual encouragement.  She welcomed each new swimmer to the group with an introductory email to the entire team.  In 2010 she established the Chesapeake Bay Lighthouse to Lighthouse Challenge, a virtual swim for swimmers of all ages and abilities.  Many of the Maryland Masters said that she was the single most important factor in their starting to swim, returning to swim, or taking their fitness to a new level.
