Nutrition and Sleep Are Important for Top Performance

Feed your body right while it’s busy repairing itself while you sleep

Special Advertorial

For busy Masters swimmers who want to perform at their best, both in the water and out, two components of training are critically important: nutrition and sleep.

Nutrition

Some adult athletes focus on calories or total fat intake when they make adjustments to their diets with the goal of becoming more healthy or increasing performance, sometimes overlooking two other vital components: protein and vitamins and minerals.

Proteins

Protein is the building block for muscles and it’s critically important for Masters swimmers. Once you hit 40 years of age, you lose an average of 1 percent of your muscle mass annually. The only way to get that muscle back is by feeding it protein and by exercise and training.

Supplements can help, however many of them are not designed with the aging active adult in mind. Supplements designed for bulking up in the gym are not ideal for Masters swimmers who need to focus on getting stronger and keeping their lean muscle.

Vitamins and Minerals

Your body also needs an array of vitamins and minerals in order to function properly and recover optimally. Unless you’re eating a perfect diet, which most of us are not, it’s hard to be sure you’re getting all the vital vitamins and minerals in the correct quantities.

The Importance of Sleep

Sleep is restorative—it’s critical for general, everyday functioning. When you sleep your body is recovering and repairing itself, physically and mentally. Whether you’ve accumulated damage from hard training, stress, racing, or just living, your body goes into fix-it mode while you sleep. Most people need 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night to perform optimally, both in and out of the pool.

The Question

So, in addition to a healthy diet and regular exercise, how do you take the guesswork out of nutrition, providing your body with what it needs, without putting on any excess weight or bulk? You need a nutritionally dense meal with the right proteins for swimmers, one that’s high in vitamins and minerals and low in calories.

The Answer

The P2Life NutriBoost Shake is a nutritionally dense food source that provides your body with the nutrition it needs to recover faster and more effectively. It contains three sources of protein—whey, casein, and soy—as well as vitamins and minerals your body needs. We recommend drinking Nutriboost right before bedtime, as some research with elite athletes have shown that casein protein can help with postexercise overnight recovery.

Our customers who use Nutriboost tell us that they:

  • Recover at a faster rate
  • Sleep better
  • Have more energy during the day
  • Get sick less often
  • Have been successful in promoting the growth of lean muscle without bulking up
  • Have reduced everyday aches and pains associated with getting older

In addition to a postexercise, presleep meal, Nutriboost makes a perfect recovery drink right after a hard training session or race. Of course, it’s also ideal as a breakfast drink and will help you get your day off to a healthy start.
