Election Schedule

In the Year Prior to the Election  
BOD forms the Election Committee during the convention BOD meeting. Wed

Zone Committee reviews and amends guidelines. HOD Meeting
Announce the opening of the Election year and request for nominations. HOD Meeting
Submit call for nominations to National Office Newsletter. Oct 15
Submit call for nominations to Jan/Feb issue of national publication. Oct 15
Post election information on Web Site. Dec 31
Pre-HOD Actions During the Election Year  
Post announcement on the home page of the Web Site. Jan 1
Chair contacts current BOD members eligible for a second term to determine if they wish to continue in the same position. Jan 1
Accept nominations. Candidates must submit a completed Nomination Packet during this period in order to be considered for the slate. The Chair shall acknowledge receipt of the packet for each candidate. Jan 1 thru Apr 30
Committee reviews applications, slates Officer candidates, notifies candidates, and publishes candidate information May 1 thru May 31
Continuous publication of candidate information to the HOD through email newsletters and web site postings May 31 thru Sept
Submit election information to National Office for inclusion in the HOD packet. Aug 1
HOD Meeting Process  
Posting of Election Info: Posters of candidates and a box for meet the candidates sessions will be placed at the USMS registration table. The box will be available for submission of questions until the Thursday afternoon HOD meeting. There will also be posters available for the back of the HOD meeting room and the hospitality suite. Slating of Director Candidates will take place during the Thursday, 8:30 a.m. zone meetings. The election chair will provide each zone representative a set of instructions for the slating process as well as information on all director candidates for their zone. Thu

Notification of Director Slates: Zone representatives will submit their slates to the election chair immediately following the Thursday zone meetings. They will also submit any zone rep changes that occurred during the zone meetings. Thu
10:30 a.m.
HOD floor nominations will take place on Thursday at 1:45 p.m. The election chair will read the slate and accept floor nominations for each office. Floor nominees will be expected to submit their paper work immediately following nominations. Thu

Qualification of Candidates:The election committee will qualify floor nominees on Thursday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Thu
6-7:00 p.m.
Meet the Candidates: There will be a Meet the Candidates session on Thursday, 8:30-9:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Only candidates running in contested elections will answer questions during this session. Following the formal meet the candidates forum, all candidates will be asked to remain for a half-hour to mingle and to be available for informal questioning from the delegates. Thu

Elections:The election will be held during the Friday 3:00-5:00 p.m. HOD session. After a reading of the full slate, candidates running unopposed will be elected by acclamation. Balloting for contested elections will be by roll call vote using paper ballots. Fri
