As racial tension continues to plague our country, we hope the tragic recent events will be a catalyst for meaningful change. These events have strengthened our commitment to improving inclusion and equality within our organization and our sport.

The sport of swimming has long struggled with racial diversity—societal systemic racism and injustice create barriers to entry for black communities.
USMS is committed to working toward eradicating these barriers and creating an inclusive environment for all swimmers. In recent years, we have been funding Adult Learn-to-Swim programs in diverse communities. Today, we've stepped up this effort by setting aside $10,000 for ALTS programs in predominately black communities for the USMS Swimming Saves Lives Foundation's 2021 grant year.

But we can do better. Through the USMS Diversity and Inclusion Committee, we are actively pursuing new ways to educate our board, staff, and coaches, and embrace diversity in our ranks.
