Stories about USMS Swimmers

Roger L Hawkins

Captain Speed Swimming's Silver Haired World Record Holder is none other that Roger Hawkins . Roger was born in Madison, Wisc and comes to our little group via stops in Nebraska, and California. He started swimming at age 11 and quickly advanced to become the Nebraska State High School champion in the 50 & 100 Freestyle. Roger then went on to swim for the University of Southern California. After attending USC he went on to study and live in a Buddhist Monastery for a few years. Roger also achieved the status of Doctor of Psychology, which he practiced in the Los Angeles area for over 15 years. In 1999 Roger decided to retire and move to Ft. Lauderdale with his lovely wife Patricia. Roger says he was fortunate to meet a fantastic swimmer at a National Swim meet named Jim Lilley , who invited Roger to join our little group at the Hall of Fame Pool. Roger is the current Master's World Record Holder in the 50 free short course age 50-55. In is spare time Roger and Patricia volunteer their time in work with prisioners and hemophiliacs. Our retired Captain Speed member keeps busy helping others, and of course looking to break more masters swimming records -- World Records -- All-American History -- #1 Swims Since 1993 -- Top Ten Since 1993
