Sponsors our two National Master meets & four Regional meets in each zone. We have a contract with the AAU to process our individual registrations with mandatory insurance. The clubs are registered with Adrienne Pipes , National Registration Chairperson. Many Master swimmers were not sure how to register, especially in localities without an active AAU Association.
Local Master Swimming Committees(LMSC) were formed this year with officers & by-laws. Each sport must be registered as individual clubs starting each year January 1. A new format for SC & LC National master meets is published in US Master swimming rules code book on page 137. Numerous master Swimming meets, swimming as regional meets, were sponsored by local Penn Mutual Representatives.
The Short Course Nationals were successfully held in Irvine, CA under Meet Director, Mike Gilmore, & his staff. There were approximately 1200 contestants, the largest attendance ever- 500 relays, the longest program & 128 teams listed. It was held in the Aquatic Complex. The social was an outdoor barbeque with dancing. Cindy Baxter was the 1980 recipient of the Ransom Arthur Award.
The Long Course Nationals were held in Canton, Ohio under Meed Director, Harry Fox, & his committee at the CT Branin Natitorium. There were approximately 800 contestants & was a well organized, well run National Meet using the system of starting at each end of the pool. Our social was a delicious prime rib dinner complete with all the trimmings. The after dinner program was very short. We were then entertained by a group of male singers from Canton, Ohio. First place winners were awarded medals, emblems & a "The Finals" T-shirt. Many prizes donated by swimming manufacturers were awarded to the lucky winners.
