HISTORY OF MASTERS SWIMMING - 1975
In 1975, the Short Course Nationals were again held in Fort Lauderdale. Some enjoyed a boat trip and many
visited the Hall of Fame adjacent to the Hall of Fame Pool. This meet attracted more women than the
previous meets. The '75 Long Course Nationals were held in Knoxville, Kentucky - John Crewe Meet
Director, making the tenth Masters Meet.
Ransom Arthur
, Richard Rahe, Hamilton and
Mildred Anderson
were awarded special badges for being in all of the Nationals for five years.
The program also offered a social (buffet/banquet) that started at the first National Meet in Amarillo, thus
giving everyone the opportunity to know each other better, and increase friendships. Host swimmers
anticipate the opportunity to see and visit their National Masters friends and travel. Some take side tours.
Hal Onusseit
was the third Ransom J. Arthur recipient. As he had died, one of his family accepted the
award.
There were a few disqualifications, but the decision was rescinded regarding the breastroke. Every meet seems to improve. Those without wheels depend on bus transportation to and from the meets.
Masters Diving and Synchronized Swimming was officially started in '75.
Long Distance Masters Swimming is headed by Cliff Brown, Edie Gruender 's father.
