Some comments (1996):
Jim Bigler is still swimming for MAC, and would
lay money that at this time he can swim faster in all but the 50 Free.
Karl Von Tagen is of course still splashing, and well
(Top Ten). Ron Nakata is with us and still
ahead of all his times above. Virginia Arvidson
(Van Rossen) looked great in the '95 LC Nationals. Ralph
Mohr is registered and swims Nationals, lives in the Coos Bay area.
Chuck Harrison continued to swim with OMS into the
late 70's, saw him just recently, not swimming, but well and happy.
Sheridan Jones is still active in OMS, but is laying
out a year (1996). Neil Farnham, a fine swimmer,
continued for MAC into the mid 70's and then dropped out.
George Burgess, an outstanding breaststroker, continued
into the Mid 70's and then dropped, the author remembers all the kidding
we gave George, he was the only one smoking in those days. Connie Wilson, swam right up until the time of her death
in 1986.
Bill Dendurant continued to swim for a couple of
years, and then became very important to the program, as head coach at Tigard
High, he hosted some very fine swim meets. We lost Bill a couple of years
ago. Carroll Bagby was the "old timer"
of the program, an excellent swimmer, who stayed with us into the early
80's. Don Jacklin, world renowned coach at
David Douglas, swam with us at Nationals in the 80's. To my knowledge he
is still around, but not active in Masters. Warren
Kleist, then of IEM, moved to the Seattle area, and still is a memeber of
PNA. An outstanding all-around swimmer.
David Boyd, younger brother of Dick (Richard),
swam into the late 70's and then decided to concentrate on the family business.
Lynn Wall, outstanding swimmer, at this time with
David Douglas, moved to the Seattle area, and representing PNA, set a number
of Zone records, a couple of which still stand.
