Work Flow

Tom Hindle is invited to create a graphic illustration of our "work flow". It is hoped that this will be a "map" serving as the home page for our Committee whereby one can click on any of the "topic representations" to learn more about them. The following is an attempt to identify in brief text the major ideas that will be represented in the "work flow".

  1. What we are preserving
    1. Important Documents — Charter, By-Laws, Incorporation Documents.
    2. Official Publications — Swim-Master, Swim-Swim, Lane Lines, Swim Magazine.
    3. Items Published in Other Media
    4. Historical Collections — Ham & Mildred Anderson, Joan Smith, Edie Gruender.
    5. Stories — especially about people important in our history.
    6. Oral Histories — especially from those who have watched us & participated with us for many years.
    7. Historical Articles Written by Us about Us — especially about LMSC's.
    8. Records, All-Stars, All-Americans, Top Ten & other Awards & Recognition
    9. Remembering — record the passing of people important in our competitive or administrative history.
    10. Swimming Esthetics — anything else of special interest to Masters Swimmers.
    11. The Photo Gallery

  2. How we are organized
    1. Our Mission Statement and Administrative Structure
    2. Our Catalogue — (must integrate our two versions, must add a section on other resources & locations)
    3. Gathering & archiving content in digital form
      1. Text: stored as text files with some html enhancement and published in various ways (Meegan Wilson)
      2. Photos: stored as source art and published with watermarks appropriate to our "releases" from photographers and subjects (Carl House); subcommittee to get releases (Marcia Cleveland)
    4. Archiving content in paper form — via professional archival services from The Henning Library (Preston Levi)

  3. How we make information available
    1. SwimGold.org — USMS has blocked this from continuing beyond 12/31/02 promising to provide a new means.
    2. The Photo Gallery — on a compact disks, last published 9/7/02, next publishing date 1/1/04.
    3. The Henning Library at the International Swimming Hall of Fame
    4. Encouraging LMSC Archives
    5. Searching our archives — index by name, LMSC, club, age group, key word.

Our Plan Before the RFP.
