Press Releases

A PLAN FOR BUILDING CAPACITY FOR USMS PRESS RELEASES
Our Committee is not responsible for "communications" and will not issue press releases. But we do have lots of information and we have the means for automatically generating material that might be used by other entities in USMS. We intend to experiment with this idea and see if we interest other entities in USMS in using our material.

Purposes and Scope of this Effort
It is believed that newspaper coverage of USMS events can be helpful in promoting Masters swimming for local teams and coaches and for increasing the general awareness of the opportunity and benefits of swim training in keeping with the Mission Statement and Goals and Objectives of USMS. This special effort might be related to events triggered by national activity, including announcement of officers, committee chairpersons, All-Americans, and recipients of special awards and recognition.

Organizational Plan: Creating Photo Files
See above.

Technical Requirements: Creating Text Files
In general, text material about individual USMS swimmers should be prepared in text files. These can be created with the "save as" command in Microsoft Word for Windows selecting "MS-DOS text with line breaks (*.txt)". If you do not use Word, then send us your story as best you can and we'll figure out how to put it into USMS archives. It is much better to send us your story on a floppy disk than on paper.

Technical Requirements: Creating Photo Files
It is hoped that sending a photo to a newspaper can be effectively achieved by sending them a .jpg file on a floppy disk. Standards for photo files need to be developed. Current standards are articulated at:
