Specifications

In terms of digital quality, images are of three sorts.

  1. "Source art" is whatever we've received, stored with maximum image quality for whatever processing we might want to do "someday". For Swim Magazine photos, these are stored on CD's. There are probably about 30 CD's. I feel these should be in a format that is not "lossy", but when they come from a digital camera in jpeg format, we don't have much choice. Image files from Swim Magazine may be as large as 75mb. TIF files from scanning photo prints are typically about 500k.
  2. "Web images" are jpegs, usually 360 pixels in height with width floating. The image file is usually about 40k to 100k.
  3. "Thumbnail images" are also jpegs, usually 140 pixels in height with width floating. Thumbnail images are always stored in a folder called \t\ just below the folder the web images are in. The image file is usually about 4k to 10k.
