 USMS History & Archives Committee

Archive databases

The History & Archives Committee is developing an all-inclusive catalogue of all items in our archives including paper and digital items and whatever other media appear. This catalogue is the first item in the menu below. Our committee also has a number of Excel files and other databases that have been given to us which should be incorporated into the archives catalogue, or at least processed in concert with the catalogue. All such databases, tables, bibliographies and synopses are included below. Barbara Dunbar is leading our effort to create a useful catalogue which will include and allow for easy look-up in any of these items and will assure that special projects which will use this capability (like our list of Olympians) are not overlooked.

It is useful to observe that the manner in which we are handling these Excel (and other) files is that they are automatically accessed by the website compiler. There is no importing or exporting involved, and no human effort is involved in moving the information from the format in which it is maintained to the format in which it is displayed on the web. This is a seamless joining of databases completely under program control.

At present, this work is being done in Excel, but a more appropriate platform for long term use is needed. If you have technical skills and would like to comment or help, please contact Barbara Dunbar. (APL programmers need not apply.)
