AssignSwimmerID : assign SwimmerID by query on names

We are migrating our procedures to a "GUI" (graphical user interface) so that various members of the H&A Committee can share in the work of maintaining our archives. One of the most time consuming procedures is to assign SwimmerIDs. This is easy where the name is the same for Top Ten as it is for Registration, or for names we've encountered before. (Whenever we say name, we mean "name/age". Our procedures must not assign a swim by Richard T Smith to "Richard T Smith" unless the swimmer and the registered person are of the same age.) But it is very difficult where names are misspelled and it is difficult to keep up with nicknames, marriages and casual name differences from year to year.

Therefore this procedure has been the first we put into a GUI format and it is available now on a CD. It will evolve, but the present version has some interesting characteristics. It requires no installation on your computer. In fact you don't even have to copy anything onto your hard drive. So, when you are finished identifying swimmers, you simply pull the CD out of the CD drive and your computer is exactly the same as it was before you started. Information on people you have identified is automatically sent to the websteward by e-mail so he/she can update the source file.

You may wish to copy the CD onto your hard drive so that you can update the source file, and you can do so. You still don't have to install anything.

You just go to "Start" "Run" and put in "d:\ttdb\ttdb.exe wssize=48m" and it goes to work.

If you copy the CD onto your hard drive, or if you just want to make life simpler, you can create a shortcut on your desktop and put "d:\ttdb\ttdb.exe wssize=48m" into the command line.

Everything on the CD will work perfectly well with the new SQL database when we convert to it. It uses the same maintenance procedures all our H&A systems use.
