Annotation

Our project to annotate Swim Magazine photos is coming along with important recent contributions by Katie Cooper, Howard Rutenberg, Debbie Cavanaugh and Tim Erickson. We have annotation on about 2000 if the 2297 images we've received from Swim Magazine (in a database).

Now we need to place watermarks on images to be distributed so that copyright notice is given to protect against improper use. Next we need to get permission from photographers to use their photos. We expect that a big percentage of the photos are from USMS members who will give permission readily. Next we'll seek permission from professional photographers, first approaching those we know and/or those who have had the most photos published in Swim Magazine.

Here are our next steps.

  1. At convention we'll agree upon how watermarks and annotation will be placed on images. We have examples of image annotation possibilities to aid our discussion.
  2. We must develop forms to be signed by photographers and by people in the photos allowing their use and perhaps specifying terms of use.
  3. We need to undertake the effort to get permissions for as many photos as we can. Here's a partial list of photographers and a partial list of people appearing in photos.
  4. other next steps may emerge during discussion at convention....
