USMS Clubs

National Ranking of Clubs

The table below lists all USMS teams with 50 or more members, a total of 121 teams. The size of the team and its strength in terms of Top Ten and All-American swimmers is shown, and the rank that team holds in this list on each of these criteria. In order to be included in this report, a swimmer has to be registered according to the most recent Registrar file available to the Top Ten Committee.

Here are some observations from this report as constructed from the 12/1/97 Registrar file. The examples below have not been updated since then, though the numbers in the table below are based on the most recent Registrar file given to the Records & Tabulation Committee.

Empire is the biggest club (928). Arizona has the most Top Ten swimmers (184). San Diego (SDSM) has the most All-Americans (54). The Olympic Club has the biggest percentage of their swimmers who have made Top Ten (53.7%). West Coast Aquatic Masters (WEST) has the biggest percentage of Top Ten swimmers who have made All-American; they only have one Top Ten swimmer and he or she made All-American (100%). The Olympic Club has the biggest percentage of their members who have made All-American (33.1%).

As a further example of how to read the table, here's data for Arizona Masters (ARIZ). Arizona Masters has 880 members, 184 swimmers who have made Top Ten since 1993, and 45 swimmers who have made All-American at some time in the history of USMS. 20.9% of their members have made Top Ten and 24.5% of Top Ten swimmers have made All-American. 5.1% of their entire membership have made All-American at some point. Arizona ranks 2nd in total membership, 1st in the number of Top Ten swimmers and and second in the number of All-Americans on their team. They rank 33rd in the percentage of their swimmers who have made Top Ten, 42nd in the percentage of Top Ten swimmers who have made All-American, and 35th in percentage of percentage of their total membership who has made All-American.

To repeat, the numbers below are not consistent with the above examples because the numbers below are based on a newer Registrar file.
