Olympic Swimming - All You Need to Know to Watch Olympic Swimming on TV
The preliminaries for the swimming events will begin on Saturday, August 9 (Beijing time). Finals will begin on Sunday, August 10, and run through Sunday, August 17. Preliminaries will be held during the evening sessions, Beijing time. Finals and semifinals will be held during the morning sessions. The 10K marathon swims will be on Wednesday and Thursday, August 20-21.

All events have preliminaries and finals, but not all events have semifinals.
Events 200 meters or shorter will have preliminaries in the evening, semifinals the next morning and finals the following morning. Events over 200 meters and all relay events will not have semifinals, just preliminaries in the evening and finals the following morning.
The time in Beijing is 12 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time (15 hours ahead of Pacific Daylight Time). Consequently, when preliminaries are swum at 10:30 in the evening in Beijing, it will be 10:30 in the morning on the East Coast of the United States. When finals take place in Beijing at 10:00 in the morning on August 10, it will be 10:00 p.m. on August 9 on the East Coast of the United States (7:00 pm on the West Coast).
