2009 U.S. Masters Swimming Short Course Championship and the 1-Mile Open Water Championship

The 2009 U.S. Masters Swimming Short Course National Championship will be held May 7-10, 2009 and online registration is now available! The U.S. Masters Swimming Short Course National Championship is hosted by the Clovis Swim Club and will be held at Clovis High School North.

What is the Short Course Nationals?
U.S. Masters Swimming awards bids to local Masters programs that conduct two pool national championships a year. The spring championship is called "short course" because it is held in a 25-yard competition pool. The summer championship is called "long course" because it is held in a 50-meter competition pool. The 2009 U.S. Masters Swimming Short Course National Championship will be in Clovis, Cal. and the U.S. Masters Swimming Long Course National Championship will be in Indianapolis, Ind.

How do I qualify?
Any U.S. Masters Swimmer is eligible to compete in up to three events without meeting the qualifying time standards and a total of up to six individual events can be entered if a swimmer has qualifying times in his or her 4th-6th events.

What is the facility like?
Clovis High School North has two 50-meter pools, which will make it possible for simultaneous events to take place. Clovis High School North also has state of the art locker rooms, a concession stand, and plenty of deck space and grassy areas to hang out, watch the meet, and prepare to swim. Sponsor booths will also be located off of the main competition area for browsing, shopping, and passing the time before your next event.

How do I register?
You can register online for the U.S. Masters Swimming Short Course National Championship between now and April 9, 2009. Online registration is the preferred method, but you may also complete and send us the official entry form via U.S. mail. Mailed entries are due by April 2, 2009.

Will there be an athlete social?
Of course! The swimmers social will be hosted on Saturday May 9, 2009 from 7pm-10pm at the Fresno Convention Center's historic Valdez Hall. The swimmers social will include a full dinner, music, and lots of fun. The social costs $12 and reservations for the social will close with online entries on April 9, 2009.

What is the 1-Mile Open Water Championships?
The U.S. Masters Swimming 1-Mile Open Water Championship is a 1-mile swim on Monday, May 11. The Clovis Swim Club is operating the event at a lake roughly 10-miles from Clovis High School North pool.

How do I qualify?
You are already qualified! The U.S. Masters Swimming 1-Mile Open Water Championship is open to all U.S. Masters Swimming members.

Can I use equipment during the race?
No. The use of neoprene swimsuits, wetsuits, or other non-porous attire as well as fins, pull buoys and other swimming equipment is prohibited.

Where is the U.S. Masters Swimming 1-Mile Open Water Championship?
The race will be held at Millerton Lake, about 15 miles northeast of Fresno. There is a park entry fee of $7 per vehicle.

What is the race schedule for the 1-Mile Open Water Championship?

At 8:00am on Monday May 11, 2009 there will be a mandatory race briefing. After the conclusion of the race briefing the race schedule will be as follows:

8:30 am Male 18-44
8:35 am. Male 45+
9:05am Female 18-44
9:10 am Female 45+
**All swimmers will start and finish on the beach
