Hello From The National Office!
The Spring is also the time of year when many of us will see the results of our past year of training. I am looking forward to swimming at Nationals (in a new age group) in the "fast" Federal Way pool. Thank you Hugh and Jane Moore and the Championship Committee. Good luck to all of you swimming and SWIM FAST!
Ahh, the Spring! One of my favorite seasons. The snow is gone, the sun is shining and the windows are open! (Up here in New Hampshire we just have to be careful when we go outside, not to get eaten alive by the black flies.)
There was a tremendous response from many concerning important information they (or their committee) wanted to get out to the membership. You will find these messages under ANNOUNCEMENTS. Please read these carefully and feel free to send me one of your own. Remember, two way communication, that 's what this newsletter is for.
The bulk of this newsletter includes reports from the various USMS Committees. As you will see, these volunteers have been very busy and much has been accomplished since Convention. I would like to extend a special Thanks to all for making our organization the success it is today.
That 's about it for now. If you have any questions, you know where to find me. Remember, the ultimate goal is to keep you current with USMS and open the channels of communication between the National Office and your LMSC.
If you 're going to Federal Way, stop by and say hello. I 'll be somewhere around the blue and gold New England banner.

WHO GETS A RULE BOOK?
From Tracy Grilli
There has been some confusion over who receives a complimentary USMS Rule Book. The people listed below are the ones:
Board Of Directors - Executive Committee, Committee Chairs and Special Assignments
Committees - members of the Legislation, Rules, Long Distance Committees
LMSC - Registrar, Officials Chair and President/contact person from each registered club.
Tidbit #1 - from Bill Earley
Rather than throw out obsolete sheets of our expensive, official USMS stationary, just cut off the bottom 1.5 inches and use it!
Tidbit #2 - from Dorothy Donnelly
When sending a fax, write the fax number on the back of the last page.
Tidbit #3 - unknown
Don't look back, they might be gaining on you.
Tidbit #4 - Darlynne Ferguson
Did you ever wonder what O*H*I*O stands for? Old Hearts Inspiring Others
Tidbit #5 - The Taper by Bryan Finlay
borrowed from Wave Lengths, Summer 1996
The day is right, the feeling's right, the water's right.
The sun is right, the wind is right.
The pace is right, the race is right.
Ohh-kaay! I love it when a taper comes together.
Tidbit #6 - by Sheldon Brown via Michael Collins' a few DAM Thoughts of the Day
"A smoking section in a restaurant is like a peeing section in a swimming pool."
Tidbit #7 - Ann Landers via the St. Louis Masters Swimming Newsletter, January 1997
This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what anybody could have done.
